Always Magical Way back in 1994, when this place opened its doors, my Grandma and Grandpa packed me up to take me with them to see it. It's one of my most magical and wonderful childhood memories. The gorgeous facility is a domed, glass conservatory filled with thousands of butterflies. There is a 3 story waterfall, orchids, and tropical plants; it is every secret garden dream delightfully perfected. And now I've taken my little one to see it. Butterflies landed on him, we saw an iguana, and perhaps he will also retain these memories the way I did. It was every bit as magical as I remembered it and everyone should make this a must stop and visit.
Great place to see beautiful butterflies and flowering plants. There is even some tortoises and a big iguana! Children especially love this place. It is worth the extra cost to purchase a ticket as it is NOT included in your museum general admission ticket. There is a small but informative exhibit inside of butterflies, their life cycle, and some other bugs. Check their opening hours as it opened later than the permanent exhibit halls when we visited.
A wonderful relaxing environment populated by thousands of butterflies. There are several hands-on exhibits as you enter, kid friendly but interesting to adults. The main pavilion is a recreation of a rain forest. A glass covered enclosure 3 to 4 stories high, there is a waterfall, tropical trees and plants with a small pond on the bottom level. Did I mention thousands and thousands of butterflies? Walk the winding pathways, and they flutter about you, sometimes lightly landing on you. It's easy to spend hours enjoying the sounds of nature, and watching flocks of butterflies chasing each other back and forth. The butterfly center is a great way to finish the day after exploring the museum.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is an amazing place. We went to the planetarium, 2 shows, the dinosaur exhibit, & then the butterfly center. The number of species, their sizes & beautiful colors is astounding. There was a team member who walked around & answered several questions we had. Was a nice touch. As you enter the exhibit area there are marvelous pictures and displays that are very interesting & educational. Also some videos you can watch. We are anxious to go again soon. We highly recommend the museum. 👍
This place is so beautiful! The incredibly high ceilings make for an experience that surrounds you completely. The butterflies are amazing to see and the museum leading up to it is very informative. Recommended for the curious person at any age 🦋
