Amazing gardens! Staff was very friendly, our tour guide was good. Both my wife and I were a little bit disappointed that the 90minute tour didn’t include the gardens and their story. A little advice to the tour guides when speaking on slavery, it happened, it’s our history, talk about it in a professional manner and it’ll be fine. Don’t try to suppress any information because there are minorities in your tour group, it makes us feel uncomfortable when you omit a certain part of history to “protect” our feelings. We knew what we signed up for let’s talk about it and move on!
A beautiful and enchanting experience. The gardens were beautifully designed and kept up. Highly recommend visiting the museum and garden if you have the time , you will be highly satisfied with the experience.
I really enjoyed our visit on May 14th. Though, only two or three flowering plants were in bloom, the design of it's yard and gardens, it's trails, it's fountains, it's rocky water runoff ditches that flow into the Bayou were all absolutely beautiful (aka b** a**). The interior of the mansion is a perfect match to the yards. Very interesting antiques and collection, and my favorite part... Beth (i really hope i remember her name correctly)... She is the sweetest "young lady" I've ever encountered at any museum. As she heard me talking about the items in the Murphy Room, she walked out from where she was, the Massachusetts Room, to greet us. After some long enjoyable conversation about the many items and the history and about ourselves a bit, she told me i was (one of) her favorite quests. Well, she was my favorite too. She even invited me to look into the classes for becoming a docent. Very interesting, but i know my schedule would never allow, so long as i have to make a living, or rather, until i don't. Don't forget to see and read the history on the walls of the ticketing building.
I went in December so most flowers were not in bloom but the grounds were lovely. Paths through the gardens were brick pavers and gravel. To enter the gardens, we had to walk across a high wooden bridge spanning a Bayou tributary. If you don't like that sort of thing, contact the museum to ask if there is another way to enter.
Amazing landscaped gardens and beautiful fountains to see and enjoy. The mansion has incredible furnishings and paintings, so much history to admire. A very nice and peaceful way to spend your time.
