I loved this place! So much fun to see golden butterfly cocoons and large butterflies. Not a big exhibit. It would take 30min-1hr to see it depending how long you want to enjoy seeing flying butterflies around you. There is a separate charge for this exhibit which is ok because we didn't want to go to the main museum on that day. The location is nice too to walk in the park.

This is one of those gems that is in Houston. The Cockrell Butterfly Center is part of the Museum of Natural History but they do charge separately. They do offer discounted rates on Thursdays. Once you step inside, you're immediately transported to a rainforest. Kids and adults can enjoy this place. Some of the butterflies are even friendly enough to land on you, if you stay still for long enough.

Located in the atrium attached to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Cockrell Butterfly Center is home to thousands of butterfies. Many different kinds of butterflies inhabits rain forest ecology built on three levels inside the pyramid shaped glass structure. You can watch first hand their life cycles, eating habits and enjoy the wealth of information the staff has as they are always nearby to answer all your questions. The exhibit is separate from the museum and you have to buy a ticket but does grant access to the atrium all day. You will be amazed!#

Easily one of my favorite year round exhibits at the natural science museum in Houston. The exhibit alone is gorgeous, and seeing the butterflies is always wonderful. Admission costs $12 for an adult, with discounted prices for children, students, and seniors. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area, especially on a Thursday, when admission for the science museum’s general exhibits are free.

We've been to the Museum of Natural Science dozens of times but never stepped foot into the Butterfly Center, and I can't believe we had been missing out. What a delightful treat to learn about the world of insects and experience the butterflies fluttering around you in the transporting rainforest dome.
